I also have a Garmin Rino 130 and a Nuvi 350 in my truck. If your into camping and any outdoor wilderness activities they are a must for me. Like you said, fun and very cool to have.

I agree with you that combining Camping and Grand Prix doesn't fit very well and may even spoil the thought of a peaceful camping experience, but I think you may have a few Grand Prix Fans that may disagree with you.

I'm sure that there are some that would tell you that a camping spot right next the the race track would make for the perfect camping trip.

Camping World Grand Prix? hmmm I think it kinda spoils it. It's like calling an African safari a travel African Safari grand Prix! I think it would spoil it. There is something so natural about camping that adding words like grand prix kind of spoils. At least thats what I think.

Hi,

This are good basic tips. I would also add the following:
1. Get a tent size that gives you some extra head room.
2. Always get a tent that has more space than you think you will need. This is so you can store firewood and supplies in the tent as well.
3. Summer tents are really good for, yes, the summer as they provide good ventilation and have high ceilings.

Best,
Jeff Marshall

While I'm checking over my camping gear and I have the tent set up in the yard, I will re-spray the tent with a good water repellent which is manufactured for tents. The rain fly is done separately hanging from a clothes line in the back yard.

Make sure the tent and fly is completely dry and that the weatherman is not predicting rain on that day. You want your freshly sprayed tent to completely dry before it sees any moisture.

Always follow the manufactures' direction when applying.

You didn't mention what to do if your fire wood is damp.

One thing which I always have packed up to go with me on a camping trip is a can of charcoal lighter fluid. In the event my supply of wood has been rained on, a little lighter fluid works wonders. Just use enough to get the fire started.

While we're on the subject of fire wood, if your camping trip entails crossing state lines, you may want to do some research on transporting wood from one state to another. Particularly Ohio and Michigan, due to the Emerald Ash Borer. The states are trying to reduce the spread of this harmful insect.

Enjoy your camping trip. If you're new to this past time, due yourself a favor and do as much research as you can. It will pay off in the long run.

Thanks for the tips. The tarp underneath is something that I'll be sure to do on my next camping trip this summer.

My family started out in a tent and we loved it. Soon after the kids had all grown up we switched to a tent trailer. I loved it because it was very easy to pull and really easy to set up. We had many fun trips to the Oregon coast with it and never had any problems. Ours had a bathroom in it so it was really self contained.

I have never been sorry that we used a tent for many years but I sure was glad to get rid of it and get the tent trailer.
